To answer your questions, I absolutely revisit the same skills to see if students are taking on those skills and making progress. Also, it always seems that students are much more reluctant in a whole class group, but once you get them in a conference one-on-one, they are much more receptive to feedback and improving their writing. It's the number one thing that makes a difference for reluctant students in my opinion because it also helps build that relationship with the teacher as well.middleschoolteachertoliteracycoachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02723130657428914024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528270180049100451.post-78286696281032735892014-02-04T18:45:41.630-08:002014-02-04T18:45:41.630-08:00I am a brand new teacher! Your suggestions about how to do this are SO helpful. Thank you. Do you ever revisit the same skills that you discuss with a student, at a later date? Do you find conferencing helpful for "reluctant" writers? Thanks again, JoanAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05147807652347240784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528270180049100451.post-30847259725180423962013-08-27T05:20:35.071-07:002013-08-27T05:20:35.071-07:00Thanks so much! Thanks so much!middleschoolteachertoliteracycoachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02723130657428914024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528270180049100451.post-17520589753560225692013-08-27T04:55:50.982-07:002013-08-27T04:55:50.982-07:00I like this website it’s a master piece! I have to admit, I hated it, and it made it very hard to teach. I ended up resorting to alternating between Reading and Writing Workshop every other day. It definitely wasn't ideal, but at least it allowed me the time to do a minilesson, give time for the application, and conferencing time. Good luck to you though! We're back to 90 minute class periods, and I would be so upset if we had to go back!middleschoolteachertoliteracycoachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02723130657428914024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528270180049100451.post-72292735090292168372013-01-01T20:16:57.278-08:002013-01-01T20:16:57.278-08:00I so wish that I had more time in my ELA block bec...I so wish that I had more time in my ELA block because unfortunately writing has been neglected! Last year when I had two hours I loved conferencing with my kids, but with only 55 minutes this year for everything it has been impossible! :(

Katie
Adventures of a 6th Grade Teacher
k.e.klohn@gmail.comKatie @ Miss Klohn's Classroomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11952182539453384791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528270180049100451.post-89090254201127304982013-01-01T19:26:11.336-08:002013-01-01T19:26:11.336-08:00Hi Erin! I do a lot of genre study so the minilessons are connected to a certain genre that we're working on a lot of the time. I think this helps students connect the minilessons from one day to the next. Wishing you a happy start to the New Year! :)

Kaseymiddleschoolteachertoliteracycoachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02723130657428914024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528270180049100451.post-38418914473286535282013-01-01T18:18:39.086-08:002013-01-01T18:18:39.086-08:00These are great tips! This is something I want to work on this semester because I feel like my students just want to prove they can do the mini lesson and move on to the next one. They aren't mindful of applying the lessons in other contexts.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15118204814132341267noreply@blogger.com
